January brings changes to Medicare Supplement plans
The federal government annually reviews Medicare and revises coverage on Medicare Supplement plans to reflect recent updates.
We are sending our Medicare Supplement members a letter to notify them of the following Jan. 1, 2010, changes (letters vary slightly from plan to plan):
Increased Part A deductible
Increased Hospitalization and Skilled Nursing Facility Care coinsurance amounts
Increased Medicare Part B deductible
When changes are made to Medicare deductible and coinsurance amounts, we are required to adjust the Medicare Supplement plan to match those changes.
Although benefits will reflect these changes starting Jan. 1, 2010, premiums will not change at this time. Instead, costs associated with each plan will be reviewed to determine if a future premium adjustment is needed. If a premium change is required, we will request approval from the Office of the Insurance Commissioner and send members a letter at least 30 days in advance of any premium change.
Due to the large number of letters going out, our members may experience longer-than-normal hold times if they call with questions. In an attempt to accommodate the high volume of calls, our Customer Service area will staff accordingly.
If you have any questions, please talk to your Asuris Sales contact or call Individual Marketing at 1 (888) 734-3623.
