American Heart Month: Resources and info to share with employees; plus, new heart-health solutions for ASO groups

January 30, 2024

Each year, the American Heart Association (AHA) designates February as American Heart Month—a time for families and communities to focus on preventing heart disease and stroke, the number-one killer of Americans.

According to AHA statistics, the majority of Americans believe heart attacks can be prevented but aren’t motivated to do anything to try to prevent them; and the majority don’t consider themselves at risk of having heart disease and put no effort into improving their heart health.

Do you know where your employees stand? Here you’ll find some useful insights and resources to share with them during American Heart Month to help guide them to better heart health all year long.

Learn about heart health on asuris.com

Employees can visit asuris.com to access our vast library of expert health information, supported by Healthwise. Included are articles and videos about specific conditions, including heart disease and stroke, and many other topics. On asuris.com, click Health & lifestyle, then Explore now under Health information and decision-making tools to access this valuable content.

To learn more about heart disease and stroke prevention, start with the Heart and circulation section. There, employees can read articles and see videos about the risks of high cholesterol, hypertension (high blood pressure) and more. They’ll find hundreds of brief articles about heart-health conditions and symptoms, medical tests available, prevention insights, health tools and when to seek care.

Solutions for self-funded group employees to manage diabetes and hypertension

For some employees, information and self-directed resources aren’t enough to make a meaningful impact. That’s why we’re pleased to offer ASO groups three virtual-first care programs from Omada that integrate health coaches and clinicians. Omada’s three clinical programs help address some of ASO groups’ costliest health concerns:

Omada care programs engage with patients between doctor visits—with behavioral health support, education, remote monitoring, benefits referrals and medication adherence—to help employees and covered dependents age 18+ become better at managing chronic conditions and stay on track toward reaching their health goals. Behavioral health support is integrated with each program to help employees manage stress, anxiety and depression, which often accompany chronic physical health problems.

Peer-reviewed clinical outcomes demonstrate each program’s effectiveness through high employee satisfaction and increased appreciation for an employer’s health plan, high sustained employee engagement and program adherence, and strong results in each program’s key performance measures.

Each Omada program is easy to implement when combined with your Asuris medical plans. Contracting and setup can be completed in 60 days, eligibility is automated and billing is set up to run through your medical claims. In addition, integration with our clinical data enables Omada to target employees with known cardiometabolic risk, and then report aggregate and clinical outcomes regularly.
