As part of our ongoing efforts to expand access to care for your clients and their employees, we’re excited to announce the launch of Ask a Doctor secure Messaging, the latest addition to our suite of on-demand care options. This tool is embedded in all new and renewing fully insured group plans upon 2020 renewal.
Ask a Doctor secure messaging connects members to a doctor within 60 seconds from phone or web with an easy-to-use, intuitive chat platform. The interface allows members to send live messages (just like a text exchange) back and forth with a provider on a secure platform, share photos, and switch to a call or video chat if the visit requires it.
At the end of the consult, the provider can even send prescriptions to the nearest pharmacy, if medically necessary. The chats are not time-constrained and can continue as long as needed, fitting with the member’s schedule and availability. Follow-up visits are just a chat away, too.
Ask a Doctor secure messaging is available 24/7.
Doctors can perform the following services over text:
- Answer any medical question, large or small
- Order prescriptions
- Help manage chronic conditions
- Discuss medications, including side effects
- Discuss birth control options
- Determine if an urgent or ER visit is necessary
Explain ER or urgent care follow-up instructions
Whether it's the weekend, after hours or during a break at work, health care is always just a tap away. With Ask a Doctor secure messaging, members can chat with a board-certified physician whenever it fits into their schedules. And for $5 or less per chat session through Dec. 31, 2020, it’s is highly cost effective.
Our executive medical director for behavioral health, James Polo, MD, says that in addition to providing quick, easy and low-cost access to answers. The platform also takes away the administrative tasks that often clog up telehealth services and delay care for people who may just want an answer to a quick question or a friendly voice telling them their health concern doesn’t merit a trip to the ER.
