What is DirectDerm?
DirectDerm is a teledermatology service that connects patients with board-certified dermatologists through a secure online platform. It allows patients to receive expert dermatological care without the need for an in-person visit. By leveraging technology, DirectDerm ensures that patients have access to timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans and follow-up care.
As a health care provider, DirectDerm offers:
- Enhanced patient care: Providers can offer their Medicare Advantage patients access to specialized dermatological care without the need for long wait times. This ensures that their patients receive the care they need promptly, improving overall patient satisfaction and outcomes.
- Note: A referral to Direct Derm is required for Medicare Advantage HMO members. Medicare Advantage PPO members do not need a referral.
- Increased efficiency: DirectDerm streamlines the process of dermatological consultations, reducing the burden on PCPs and allowing providers to focus on other aspects of patient care. This efficiency can lead to better resource allocation and improved workflow within a provider practice.
- Collaboration and support: DirectDerm fosters collaboration between PCPs and dermatologists. Providers can consult with dermatologists on complex cases, ensuring that their patients receive comprehensive and well-rounded care.
- Accessibility and convenience: The platform is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, making it convenient for providers and patients. This is particularly beneficial for patients in rural or underserved areas who may have limited access to dermatological care.
What conditions does DirectDerm treat?
They diagnose and treat all skin conditions, from the common to the complex.
How do providers refer patients to DirectDerm?
The process is simple and user-friendly. The provider or patient can access DirectDerm through their portal. Providers can connect patients to DirectDerm using these steps:
- Patient information submission: The provider collects the necessary patient information, including medical history and details about the skin condition. The provider then signs up for a free, secure DirectDerm account.
- Image upload: The provider takes high-quality photos of the patient's skin condition and uploads them to the platform. Clear and well-lit images are crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Case review: Once the information and images are submitted, a board-certified dermatologist reviews the case. The dermatologist provides a diagnosis and a detailed treatment plan within 24-48 hours. The provider will receive a notification when the consult report is ready.
- Follow-up: The provider receives the dermatologist's recommendations and can discuss the treatment plan with the patient. If necessary, the provider can also consult with the dermatologist for further clarification or additional guidance.
Patients can also schedule an appointment.
DirectDerm helps make dermatology more accessible, efficient and convenient. It offers a valuable tool to enhance patient care, improve efficiency and collaborate with specialists.
